University of Colorado Denver Education & Study Abroad

All University of Colorado Denver international students are required to have adequate health insurance for the duration of their academic program at Denver University and every day you are in the United States as an international student or outside the United States studying abroad..

The GeoBlue Navigator for Students is their Flagship International plan for students who are outside their home countries furthering their education. The Navigator for Students  is an approved health insurance plan that not only meets but exceeds the requirements for just about all of the colleges and universities here in the United States including the University of Colorado, both inbound and outbound International Students.

Students must be enrolled in a health insurance plan for their entire stay in the U.S., including school break periods. We encourage all students to carry their health insurance card and be aware of your options if you get sick or in case of emergency.

The GeoBlue Navigator for Students plan exceeds the US Department of State J-1 and F-1 Status Visa requirements, and exceeds the minimum standards established by the University.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT Information for (WAIVING) Non CE Denver Plans

If you are an international student, you must have coverage that meets or exceeds minimum standards established by the university in order to request an exemption from coverage offfered through them. These requirements for coverage are in place to ensure that any non-U.S. based plan you have will serve your health care needs adequately while you are a student at CU Denver.

Your alternative insurance policy must cover; the entire academic period of September through August with benefits that meet or exceed the following minimum standards:

If the program or host organization does not provide insurance or if students are traveling independently, international health and evacuation insurance coverage must be purchased. CU Denver has negotiated comprehensive, inexpensive international emergency health and evacuation insurance plan through GeoBlue on their group plan, available to all CU Denver | CU Anschutz students traveling abroad for academic purposes. Students should contact the Office of Global Education for instructions on enrolling in the GeoBlue plan. If students choose to utilize international health insurance other than the CU Denver GeoBlue plan such as the GeoBlue Navigator for Students (Significant Upgraded Plan) the university recommends identifying insurance coverage that includes, at a minimum, the following benefits:

  • Minimum political evacuation and natural disaster ($100,000)
  • Minimum coverage per injury or sickness ($100,000)
  • Minimum repatriation of remains ($25,000)
  • Minimum medical evacuation ($75,000) In addition, it is important to confirm with the potential insurer whether they provide a guarantee of payment to the medical provider in-country or if the insured is required to pay out of pocket at the time of care. GeoBlue provides a guarantee of payment.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL EVACUATION …

This is very important coverage and should be included in all international plans!  Domestic health insurance does not provide coverage for emergency air evacuations.  Emergency Medical Evacuation or Repatriation is;

  1. Your medical condition warrants immediate transportation from the place where you are located (due to inadequate medical facilities) to the nearest adequate medical facility where medical treatment can be obtained.
  2. After being treated at a local medical facility, your medical condition warrants transportation with a qualified medical attendant to your Home Country to obtain further medical treatment or to recover.

ACCESS TO THE LARGEST NETWORK IN THE U.S.
