Health Insurance Plans for Individuals & Families

For more than 60 years Blue Shield of California has provided Californians with quality health insurance plans for their families.  Today the tradition continues.  Blue Shield of California currently offers a wide selection of health plans to choose from.  Five PPO Plans called Shield Spectrum PPO, the Active Start Plans, the Active Start 25 and the Active Start 35, Access+ HMO, the Shield Savings Plans (HSA eligible) and the all new Vital Shield and Vital Shield Plus Plans.  All Blue Shield of California plans are structured to include more cost effective sharing with their members.  In short this means that members who use more services or more expensive healthcare providers will be responsible for a larger portion of the costs.

Today, you can't afford to be without health coverage. Health coverage helps protect you physically and financially. Having Blue Shield of California health coverage means you'll have access to over 45,000 doctors and more than 350 hospitals if you need medical care, and it also means you will only have to pay a small fraction of the total cost of your care. Since the doctors and hospitals in their networks have agreed to bill specific fees for their services (called "Allowable Amounts"), Blue Shield can further protect you from the high costs you would be subject to without coverage.

The All New Vital Shield Plus Plans...

Earlier last year Blue Shield of California introduced two new plans, the Vital Shield 900 and the Vital Shield 2900. Because of the great acceptance by the Californian consumer they decided to expand on these sucesses. Now you have six new plans to choose from call Vital Shield^SM Plus. Vital Shield Plus offer valuable health insurance coverage for individuals and families, as a low-cost option for those who rarely got to the doctor, but want to know they're covered when they do. The NEW Stand Alone Dental Plans now available...

Blue Shield of California now offers a range of affordable and comprehensive dental plans available to residents of California with or without a Blue Shield health plan. With Blue Shield's broad dental network including nearly 20,000 dental PPO providers and more than 8,600 HMO providers in California it is easy to access one of the largest networks in California.

Blue Shield offers two new PPO dental plans to choose from. The new Smile PPO and the Value Smile PPO dental plans both provide you affordable options to help you stay healthy now and avoid costly dental expenses in the future. The savings you will receive with the Smile PPO plan keep the cost of dental work from taking a deep bite our of your wallet later. The Value Smile PPO plan provides preventive, diagnostic, and some minor restorative services designed to aid in reduction of future costly services. Blue Shield offers Optional Coverage's such as Term Life Insurance and two dental plans to choose from.  If you are the primary applicant and are approved for health coverage, then you also qualify for CPIC Life's Individual Term Life Insurance plan at an additional charge.  You may also add optional dental coverage and you have a choice of either the Blue Shield Dental PPO or the Blue Shield Dental HMO.

To enroll, you must be:

• Age 64 3/4 or younger
• A permanent legal resident of California
• A U.S. resident for at least the lst 3 months
• The applicant's spouse or domestic partner, age 64 3/4 or younger
• The applicant's children (under 19 years of age), or the children (under 19 years of age) of the applicant's enrolling spouse or qualified partner or qualified domestic partner;
• The applicant's unmarried dependent children between the ages of 19 through 22 ("dependent" as defined by the Internal Revenue Service)
