Blue Shield of California introduces the Active Start Plans
The Active Start Plans provides protection in case of expensive medical events, while also covering your individual dad-to-day healthcare needs. Active Start Plans combines no medical deductibles and low premiums into an affordable PPO health plan for individual subscribers.
The value offered by Blue Shield of California's Active Start Plans should appeal to a variety of people, all of whom may be at different stages in their lives. The Active Start Plans should be particularly attractive to people who are considering health coverage for the first time. With no medical deductible, your health care coverage can begin working for you at the very start. Low copayments for office visits and preventive care mean you can seek medical attention before a small concern grows into a large problem.
The low copayments for generic drugs encourages you to take control of your care while underscoring the economic advantage of generic medicines. Chemically equivalent to their brand-name versions, generic drugs enable patients to receive the proper treatment while cutting their pharmacy expenses. Please note that to help keep premiums low, this plan does not include maternity benefits.
Blue Shield of California has expanded thier Active StartSM plan portfolio to include two new Individual plans: Active Start Plan 25 Generic Rx and Active Start Plan 35 Generic Rx. These new Active Start plans combine flexibility with affordability. They offer the same benefits as the Active Start plans you’re familiar with, but without brand-name prescription drug coverage. This single difference in benefits reduces premiums approximately 8 percent over those of our traditional Active Start plans
Plan Highlights Include:
- No medical deductible
- $25 or $35 physician office visit copayments (plan specific)
- $25 or $35 plus 40 percent coinsurance emergency room copayment (plan specific)
- Limited alternative care and therapy benefits
$10 copayment for generic prescription drugs
- 24-hour, toll-free access to LifepathSM nurse support phone consultations
- Maternity coverage is NOT included. Should an Active Start Generic Rx plan member become pregnant, she may transfer to an eligible plan that includes maternity benefits without underwriting.
The Active Start Generic Rx plans are a great option and they may be ideal plan transfer options if you are an existing Active Start subscriber looking to reduce your premium. Most Active Start members only use generic drugs, so a plan limited to generic prescription drug coverage may help you retain the benefits you need, and save on your monthly premium.
