 Health Insurance For Individuals -
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona offers health plans specifically designed for Arizona residents who don't have health insurance through their employer. If this is your first time shopping for insurance, you may want to start by learning more about the plans from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona.
Where do you live? There are three types of contracted health care providers that can save you money: BluePreferred, BlueSelect and Participating. You usually save the most with BluePreferred and BlueSelect providers. To determine which providers are available in your area, be sure to check the provider directories.
Which plan will be the most affordable for you? In most areas, BluePreferred Basic has the lowest premiums. BluePreferred Basic is a lower premium high-deductible PPO plan with copays for primary care office visits, generic medications and urgent care. To determine what's best for you, however, consider how often you visit the doctor and your willingness to use Preferred providers. Also think about if a higher deductible plan is the best plan for you. With either BluePreferred or BlueClassic, you can keep your monthly premiums lower if you select a higher deductible.
Do you want a plan to use with a health savings account (HSA)? Both BluePreferred Saver PPO and BlueClassic Saver indemnity are high-deductible plans that meet federal requirements for use with a health savings account (HSA). To find out how BluePreferred Saver or BlueClassic Saver work with a HSA for tax advantages, please review the HSA Learning Center. You must satisfy certain criteria to be eligible to open and/or contribute to an HSA. Check with your tax or legal advisor regarding whether you satisfy these criteria.

Are you flexible about the doctor(s) you use? If you'd like to continue using a particular physician, find out if he/she is part of the BluePreferred or BlueSelect networks. There's a good chance your doctor is in one of these networks.
Do you want maternity benefits? (prenatal care and normal delivery) If the answer is yes, you'll want to look at BlueSecure or Blue Secure Plus which covers prenatal, delivery and postpartum maternity care when the delivery occurs after the contract has been in force for 12 months. Most all other Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona plans only cover complications of pregnancy. |
